Toward Liberation

Toward Liberation is an abolitionist learning group that explores how the written word has amplified abolitionist dreams throughout history to present day.

Toward Liberation is not a book club. Rather, this is a space to explore how various forms of the written word have been used throughout history to amplify and build abolitionist movements since the era of chattel slavery through today’s modern abolitionist movements.

Each month, we’ll feature a written work—sometimes more than one—that may be a book, but will also include poetry, short fiction, non-fiction, and other forms of storytelling and imagining. When we can, we’ll look to connect written works from our past with written works of today.

Throughout the month, we’ll host a few online discussions about what we’re reading and then at the end of each month, we’ll get together via Zoom to discuss what we learned and what we hope to learn about more.

Subscribe (for free) to stay up to date and get full access to our posts, discussions, and all other materials.

We look forward to being in community with you and learning together.
