"If revolution is incoherent and the right is dangerous, then stability (however violent) becomes the default." I had to read that line several times to fully digest it. It is such a powerful summary.

I’ve been talking with my partner about this! I liked the movie but hated Perfidia’s character for the reasons laid out. I give projects a side eye when the big establishments (ie Golden Globes, Oscars, etc.) affirm them with awards.

Definitely a poor representation of black women…also a poor representation of the revolution as a whole and only focused more on the made up characters which can 100% skew a “green” individuals mind about revolution in general imo. Movie received two thumbs down from me. Poorly executed depiction. Oh but very action packed though. Thank you for this carefully thought out, descriptive piece from you. Very much appreciated.

This is the most thoughtful critical review I’ve read of OBAA. Coming from someone whose friends are cinephiles that default to PTA worship, I don’t take this lightly.

You put words to why some characters never sat right with me. I still like the film for many reasons, but I think it stays far more surface-level than people claim. Thanks for taking the time to write this 🖤🖤
